Khartoum-The United Nations (UN) has made a humanitarian appeal of 6 billion US dollars to support the approximately 26 million Sudanese affected by the ongoing conflict within Sudan and in neighboring countries.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced the launch of the 2025 Sudan Humanitarian Needs and Regional Refugee Response Plan, which requires US$6 billion to support approximately 2.1 million people inside Sudan and five million refugees in neighboring countries.
“Sudan is facing a humanitarian emergency,” said Tom Fletcher, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.
“The epidemic of sexual violence is spreading in Sudan. Children are getting hurt. The suffering is horrific,” Fletcher said.
Nearly two years of conflict have displaced 12 million people within Sudan and across its borders.
Nearly two-thirds of Sudan’s population are in need of emergency aid, while the country faces widespread famine. Refugees arriving in neighboring countries are in dire need of assistance. Sudan has been embroiled in a devastating conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since mid-April 2023, resulting in over 29,683 deaths by the end of 2024. agency
