The 56th edition of the International Film Festival of India has entered its second day today. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr L Murugan, today chaired the Ambassadors’ Round Table on Co-production at the sidelines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji, Goa. The participants discussed strengthening anti-piracy measures, expanding international film co-production, and promoting Indian cinema at global film festivals.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Murugan called for greater international co-production as India is cementing itself as a studio for the world. He noted that the domestic media and entertainment sector is projected to reach over 31 billion dollars in the next 10 years. He said that this co-production can open doors for international films to India and its diaspora which is one of the most diverse audience. Dr Murugan also raised the issue of piracy with the Ambassadors’. He hoped that this roundtable will help explore talent mobility, enhance technological innovation, strengthen strategy against piracy, simplify trans border film production and increase cultural representation.
Meanwhile, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju called for greater international collaboration to shape the media and entertainment industry. He assured that with world class studios and growing VFX technology in the country, India can meet all filmmaking needs of international studios and filmmakers.
The Roundtable was attended by Ambassadors of Togo, Morocco, Ireland, Cuba, Australia, Nepal, Israel, Guyana, and Côte d’Ivoire.
