The Nepali Congress, the country’s largest party, has also approached the Supreme Court against the dissolution of the House of Representatives carried out on September 12.

Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress for the dissolved House, Shyam Ghimire, filed the writ petition, arguing that the dissolution was unconstitutional. He appointed senior advocate and former Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati as his legal representative.

On behalf of the party, Ghimire authorized Khati, who also serves as the coordinator of the party’s election committee, to move the court.

The move comes shortly after a meeting between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli held in Maharajgunj on Friday, following which the Congress also proceeded to the Supreme Court, appearing to follow the UML’s course.

Chief Whip Ghimire and Whip Sushila Thing, along with eight other lawmakers, have been listed as petitioners in the case. The petition is scheduled to be formally registered on Monday.
