Kathmandu : The Kathmandu University, School of Education (KUSOED) signed a grant agreement with Swisscontact on a training and certification programme, which will be enforced for strengthening the pedagogical skills of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) instructors.

The initiative is supported by the Quality TVET for Youth Project which is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC). Technical assistance for it comes from Swisscontact.

The programme is expected to enhance the teaching competencies of both prospective and current TVET instructors, addressing a shortage supply of qualified trainers in Nepal. By equipping educators with advanced pedagogical skills, the initiative aims to raise the overall quality of vocational education and enhance employability of youths, said a press statement issued by KUSOED on Friday.

The instructors will have the opportunity to pursue academic certification through the Master’s in TVET and the Postgraduate Diploma in Technical and Vocational Instruction.

Moreover, the scheme targets aspiring and existing TVET teachers from diverse fields, spanning engineering, agriculture, health and hospitality to humanities. Delivered in a blended learning format that combines online and in-person instruction, it will be implemented in close collaboration with the Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI) and relevant industries.

“To ensure recognition of prior learning, the programme will award micro credentials and provide credit transfers for existing competencies and training obtained from recognized institutions, particularly the TITI,” added the press statement.
KUSOED is officially launching the programme in February next year.
