Bara district aims to produce 118,296 metric tons of potatoes from 7,440 hectares this fiscal year, slightly down from last year’s output of 121,062 metric tons. Average productivity is estimated at 15.9 metric tons per hectare. Major production areas include Simraungadh, Devtal, and Pheta, supplying markets in Kathmandu and Chitwan. While potatoes provide quick income for farmers, challenges such as poor-quality seeds, fertilizer shortages, and limited cold storage persist. Experts believe improved storage and modern farming practices could position Bara as a leading commercial potato hub.
