The United Nations (UN) has launched a 1.71 US billion humanitarian appeal for Afghanistan in 2026, as the country is expected to remain one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises. About 21.9 million people will need aid, with 17.4 million facing acute food insecurity, including 4.7 million in emergency conditions.

The plan aims to assist millions of people through food, healthcare, shelter, water, nutrition, and cash support. Ongoing challenges include climate shocks, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, mass returns of refugees, and severe protection risks, particularly for women and girls.
