Kathmandu – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States are expected to be held in the United Arab Emirates.
“I think this will be the first trilateral meeting in the Emirates. It could be tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,” Zelensky said on Thursday, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Zelensky added, “Russia should be ready for a deal.” According to him, both Kiev and Moscow are in a “difficult situation” at this point in the nearly four-year-long war.
These comments came shortly after a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Davos. The two met at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in December last year. Trump told reporters on Thursday that his meeting with Zelensky was “very good.”
Zelensky also described the meeting as “good.”
“In any negotiation with any president, I have to protect the interests of my country. So the dialogue – maybe it’s not easy, but today it was positive,” he said.
According to ABC, US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for peace talks. Witkoff said ahead of the meeting that he was “optimistic.”
“I think we’ve narrowed it down to one issue. And we’ve discussed iterations of that issue, and that means it can be resolved,” Witkoff said in Davos, “so if both sides want to resolve it, we’ll resolve it.”
That’s it, that’s my idea.’ Witkoff said his next destination after Moscow is Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Agency
