Snowfall disrupts aerial and surface transport in Kashmir valley

In Kashmir valley, most places including Srinagar received a fresh spell of snowfall on Friday, disrupting both aerial and surface transport. Flights couldn’t take off in the forenoon due to poor visibility and accumulation of snow on the runway at the Srinagar International Airport.

The authorities have also closed down the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for traffic due to heavy rains and snow at many places along the route. The Mughal road as well as Srinagar-Leh highways remain closed since the past week.
Meanwhile, the local unit of the MET department has forecast fairly widespread rain and snow for next 12 hours. However, weather will improve by Saturday morning, as predicted by the MET department.
