Kathmandu: Eleven Nepalis were taken under control in the Gulf countries, for they spread false contents (photo and videos) on social networking sites over the ongoing Israel-US and Iran war. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared this information at a news conference on Friday.
Four Nepalis were arrested in Saudi Arabia for spreading false contents, while three each in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and one in Oman. These countries have the rule of legal action to anyone creating panic by posting photos and videos on missiles and drones. This very rule was applied to those 11 Nepalis, according to Spokesperson at Foreign Ministry, Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri.
He further informed that efforts were afoot- communication to the related diplomatic missions- to release the arrested ones. “The government is communicating to the related diplomatic missions to know about the laws invoked for Nepalis’ arrest and severity of action to them,” Chhetri added.
The foreign ministry official, however, said there was no circumstance for any Nepali working in the Gulf countries to lose jobs owing to Gulf tension. Although tension ran high among the Nepali workers in the sectors of hotel, restaurant and tourism there, there was not that noticeable impact, causing layoff. He also informed that rescue and repatriation of those affected by the Gulf war and willing to return home are continued.
In a call centre set up by the ministry, the Nepali workers in the Gulf countries were making inquiries on status of flights, labour permit and willingness to return home. “So far, 86,420 Nepalis in the Gulf countries have registered names in the call centre. But the number of those informing insecurity is declining sharply,” Spokesperson told the media.
Those informing about insecurity earlier are now talking about normal situation, resuming works there. Similarly, rescue of those stranded at transit is nearly over, according to the ministry.
