Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has vehemently stated that the dates for the party’s 15th General Convention are the “final and non-negotiable,” asserting that no authority holds the power to alter the established timeline.
Addressing a Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Sunday, Thapa reaffirmed that the convention will be held from October 2–5, 2026. He emphasized that the schedule was established in strict accordance with the party’s statute and existing laws, leaving no room for unilateral changes.
Thapa explained that the slight adjustments currently being made to the preparatory timeline are intended to foster greater internal unity. “The schedule set for October 2-5 is the final,” Thapa asserted. “We are currently refining the preparatory steps to ensure that as many leaders and party members as possible—including those who were previously left out—can participate in the membership update process. This focus on inclusivity and ease of access is the reason for the minor adjustments to the timeline.”
The party president also addressed the recent Supreme Court decision to grant a judicial review regarding the legitimacy of the party’s leadership and the special general convention that brought him to power. Thapa dismissed concerns over the legal challenge, stating that he views the court’s order as a routine procedural step and remains prepared to face the judiciary once again.
