Israel and Hamas prepare for a temporary ceasefire
Kathmandu. The political leaders of Hamas have confirmed that they are studying a new proposal to stop fighting in the Gaza Strip. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has said that his group has been invited to discuss the ceasefire framework set by Israel, the US, Qatar and Egypt.
A six-week truce is said to have been proposed. In which, as before, Palestinian prisoners will be exchanged with Israeli hostages. Hamas leader Haniya says that although Hamas is in favor of a permanent ceasefire and the return of all Israeli weapons, the Israeli Prime Minister has rejected it.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that the war will not end until complete victory is achieved. On October 7, Hamas gunmen suddenly attacked southern Israel, killing 1,300 people and taking 240 hostages.
In the previous week-long temporary ceasefire, 100 Israeli hostages were released and 240 Palestinian prisoners were released. 136 Israeli hostages are still being held by Hamas.
The retaliatory action initiated by Israel in the Gaza Strip is still ongoing. So far, more than 26,700 Palestinians have died in the war in Gaza. As a result of the war, more than half of the houses in Gaza have been damaged.
