Facebook founder and CEO Zuckerberg apologized

Kathmandu: Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologized. Zuckerberg apologized to the families who lost children due to social media after a heated debate in the US Senate hearing.

On Wednesday, the CEOs of five top social media companies, including Zuckerberg, went to the Senate to testify in a hearing on the issue of child safety.
During the hearing, Zuckerberg had to face severe criticism from parents who lost their children due to social media, while the senators criticized him. Some in the audience held posters showing how Instagram has increased child suicide and exploitation. Other social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram’s parent company Meta, are often criticized for child safety issues.

The senators were angry with Zuckerberg saying that the products of the social network company were sexually exploiting children online and killing people. Senators wanted to know what companies are doing to protect children online. A bill has now reached Congress to make those companies responsible for the content posted on social media. In the Senate, Zuckerberg and TikTok CEO Shou Ji Chiu voluntarily agreed to give a statement.

But the CEOs of Snap, Discert and X did not agree. In the hearing, most of the senators and audience targeted Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg said, “Nobody should have gone through the pain your family has gone through.” Senators were furious at the lack of progress on protecting children online.
