“Nepal” was elected as the chairman of the 11th Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development

Kathmandu. Nepal has been elected as the chairman of the eleventh Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development. Dr. Meen Bahadur Shrestha was elected as the Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission at the meeting of the Economic and Social Council for Asia and the Pacific under the United Nations in Bangkok.

Japan proposed Vice President Shrestha to be elected as the chairman of this forum. He was supported by the representatives of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
According to the commission, Vice President Shrestha thanked the representatives of all the member states present in the program after being elected as the chairman of the forum.
On the platform, the progress made by the countries of the region in the sustainable development goals, which are the international common agenda, are being discussed, as well as the future course of action.
Yamlal Bhusal, spokesperson of the commission informed that the four-day discussion will focus on Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, 13, 16 and 17.
Based on the agreement reached in the discussion, a report will be submitted to the high-level political forum of the United Nations in July 2024 regarding the success and challenges in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Asia Pacific region.
The Economic and Social Council for Asia and the Pacific has 53 member states and nine other organizations.
In addition to the government representatives of the member countries, civil society, private sector, social organizations, youth, children, farmers and other stakeholders are participating in the discussion on the forum.
