15 police officers killed in terror attack in Russia

At least 15 police officers have been killed in a series of attacks in the Republic of Dagestan in southern Russia, RIA Novosti reported on Monday, citing local officials.

Two Orthodox churches, a religious synagogue and a traffic police station in the coastal city of Derbent and Dagestan’s capital, Makhachkala, were among the casualties in the armed clashes.
The head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, said that the situation was under control. According to him, the fire that was started during the attack on the synagogue in Derbent has been completely extinguished.

According to a statement issued by Melikov through social media, six armed men were killed in the armed attack. He said that the law enforcement officers have been deployed to arrest the group involved in the ‘terrorist’ attack.

Dagestan, located in the North Caucasian region, is one of the most linguistically and ethnically diverse regions of the country. After the attack, Alexander Boroda, the president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, asked the local people not to engage in any provocation, considering the possible situation that may arise after the attack in Dagestan.

According to local authorities, all entertainment programs in Makhachkala and Derbent have been canceled until further notice.

At least 144 people were killed and 551 injured in the March 22 terrorist attack and arson attack at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall concert venue, according to government figures.
