Indra Jatra begins in Kathmandu Valley from today

IndraJatra, the biggest street festival in Kathmandu, is celebrated for eight consecutive days to worship Indra, the Hindu god of rain and fertility. It is a major traditional festival for the Newar community and is also called Yenya Punhi.

Sunday marks Bhadra Shukla Dwadashi, according to the lunar calendar. From today, the main festival of the Kathmandu Valley, Indra Jatra, begins. This festival is celebrated by worshiping Indra, the god of rain and prosperity, and is also known as “Yenya Punhi” in the Newar community.
