Kathmandu, Ukraine says Russia has fired a long-range ballistic missile at Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force said it fired an intercontinental ballistic missile from its territory during an attack early Thursday.
This is the first time Moscow has fired a long-range missile in the war. The Ukrainian statement did not specify where the intercontinental ballistic missile hit or how much damage it caused.
Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) have a range of 5,500 kilometers. This means that these intercontinental missiles can attack anywhere in the world. They can also be used to launch nuclear weapons.
Earlier, Ukraine, with the permission of the United States, fired the first ATCM ballistic missile provided by the United Kingdom into Russian territory on Tuesday. In response, Russia used the weapon for the first time, international media reported. The British government has not commented on the incidents.
Following the attack, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service released images of damage to a residential building and a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities that had caught fire.
The BBC, citing Ukrainian sources, claimed that at least 15 people were injured in the attack. Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were among the injured. Nine people are being treated in hospital, but their conditions were not immediately known.
