South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested today by law enforcement officials. Yoon, who was impeached and charged with insurrection over his short-lived effort to impose martial law last month. It is the first time in South Korean history that a sitting president has been detained. According to reports, the suspended President was seen leaving his heavily fortified residence in central Seoul in a convoy to the offices of the Corruption Investigation Office after a joint team of investigators and police said they had executed the arrest warrant.
South Korean impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol was today taken to a detention centre where he will spend the night before undergoing further questioning over his short-lived imposition of martial law. As per the media reports, Yoon refused to answer questions regarding his declaration of martial law on December 3. He will be questioned further tomorrow before investigators file for a warrant to formally arrest him within 48 hours from the time they detained him.
