A new virus like Corona has spread in China: Children are more affected, it is claimed that a state of emergency has been declared

Kathmandu, Five years after the outbreak of Covid-19, a new virus has once again spread in China. Its symptoms are also similar to the coronavirus. The name of this new virus is Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), which is an RNA virus.

When infected with the virus, patients experience symptoms similar to those of cold and COVID-19. It has affected young children the most. Of these, children under 2 years of age are most affected, according to the Times of India.

According to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), its symptoms include cough, fever, nasal congestion and wheezing in the throat. Apart from HMPV, cases of influenza A, Mycoplasma pneumonia and COVID-19 have also been reported. Due to which the number of patients is continuously increasing.

Meanwhile, in a post on social media with a picture of a patient, it is claimed that China has declared an emergency in many places after the virus spread. The claim is that hospitals and crematoriums are becoming overcrowded. However, China has not provided any such information. According to a report by The Star, the CDC has said that patients suffering from diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are at higher risk of infection.

The risk of transmitting the virus is high when coughing and sneezing. If the virus is severe, it can also cause bronchitis and pneumonia. According to Reuters, China is also testing a surveillance system to deal with this.

First identified in 2001

The HMPV virus was first identified in 2001. A Dutch researcher discovered the virus in samples of children suffering from respiratory diseases. However, the virus is said to have been around for the past six decades.

The virus is found in all types of climatic environments, but its risk of spreading is highest in winter.
