Kathmandu. America has achieved a historic victory against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup group A match. Pakistan was defeated by 5 runs in the Super Over. Batting first in the Super Over, America scored 18 runs. Aaron Jones scored 11 runs while Mohammad Amir gifted 7 extra runs. In reply, Pakistan managed to score only 13 runs after losing one wicket. This is the first time that any Associate member country has defeated a Test country in the ongoing World Cup. Pakistan is also the former winner of T20 World Cup. Pakistan won the title of the second edition of T-20 World Cup in 2009. This is the first participation of America in T-20 World Cup. The team participated in the World Cup as the host country.
This is the second consecutive victory for the host USA in the competition. The USA had earlier defeated their neighbor Canada by seven wickets in their first match. After the second win, the team has reached the top position of the group by collecting 4 points. This is the second time in the World Cup that the game has been decided by Super Over. Previously, the match between Namibia and Oman reached the Super Over under Group B on May 21. Namibia won the match.
Chasing the target of 160 runs presented by Pakistan in today’s match, America scored 159 for the loss of 3 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. After the scores of both the teams were equal, the game reached the super over. Captain Monank Patel played a half-century innings for the United States. Facing 38 balls, he hit 7 fours and 1 six. Similarly, Aaron Jones scored 36 runs off 26 balls while remaining not out. He hit 2 fours and 2 sixes. Andreas Gaus contributed 35 runs off 26 balls. Nitish Kumar scored 14 runs off 14 balls. Mohammad Amir, Nasim Shah and Harris Rauf took 1 wicket each for Pakistan.
Pakistan, who batted first, scored 159 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. For Pakistan, captain Babar Azam contributed 44 runs in 43 balls. He hit 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. Sadab Khan contributed 40 runs in 25 balls. He hit one four and 3 sixes. Shaheen Shah Afridi scored 23 runs in 16 balls. Nosthus Kenzinge took 3 wickets while Saurabh Netrawalkar took 2 wickets for USA. Ali Khan and Jasdeep Singh took 1 wicket each.
