Arvind Shah was arrested for beating the Youth in Simra in the Wednesday clash between protesting Gen Z youth and UML cadre members who had arrived at Simara airport to welcome CPN UML leader Mahesh Basnet. Arvind Sah, a 38-year-old local, has been arrested by the police on the complaint of protesting youth in Simra, Bara. Bara district has been struggling to return to normalcy following two days of violent clashes.
Gen Z youths protested throughout the day in Simra on Thursday and took the stand that they would not negotiate without Shah’s arrest, who was involved in Wednesday’s incident. On Thursday, the Birgunj-Pathalaiya road section under Tribhuvan Rajpath was blocked. Long and short-distance passenger and freight vehicles were stopped as protesters gathered on the streets. Although the Zenji protesters refused to come to the talks, traffic resumed in the evening when the demonstration was suspended.
In the afternoon, when there was a clash between the protesters and the police, the police used aerial fire and tear gas to control the situation. A curfew was imposed here till 8 pm.
Gen Z Group filed a complaint against seven to eight people for being involved in Wednesday’s incident. Among them, two ward presidents elected from UML were arrested on Thursday morning. The administration has allowed them to be detained for seven days.
Meanwhile, Sports and Youth Minister Bablu Gupta and Genji representatives have gone to Simra for talks and discussions on the Bara incident. According to sources, on Thursday evening, along with Minister Gupta, ‘Hami Nepal’ coordinator Sudan Gurung, Genji representatives Purushottam Yadav, Abhishek Singh and others went to Simra.
6 policemen and 4 Gen Z protesters were injured in the clashes. Nishant Shrestha, Sandesh Ghimire, Sumit Chaudhary, and Nilhari Sapkota are among the injured protesters. Two of them have been sent to Birgunj for further treatment, while two are being treated at Simra Hospital.
