Asiad: First gold to China

The host country China won the first gold medal of the Asian Games on Sunday.

China won the first gold in the women’s boat race. Zhou Jiaqi and Qiu Xiuping won gold in today’s final under lightweight double sculls rowing.

The Chinese duo of Zhou and Qiu clocked 7 minutes 6.78 seconds, nearly 10 seconds behind Uzbekistan’s Luizakhon Islamova and Malaika Tagmativa. Tagmatiwa settled for the silver medal, while Chelsi Karputti and Rahma Mutiara Putri from Indonesia managed to win the bronze.

India’s trio of Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh and Ashi started the first day victoriously by winning the silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event, while Indian Army players Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind won the silver medal in the men’s lightweight double sculls. In rowing itself, another men’s team has captured the silver medal.

The Indian women’s cricket team also secured the silver medal after defeating Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the semi-finals. So far, India has bagged five silver medals.
