The decision has triggered outrage from student representatives who say that the price hike will drive potential students to competitors. Those on Temporary Graduate, Visitor, and Maritime Crew visas, will no longer be eligible to apply for a student visa while they are in Australia. Meanwhile, the Australian government said the additional revenue will help fund initiatives in education.
