Mohammad Shahabuddin will be the next President of Bangladesh. The Election Commission of Bangladesh issued a notification to this effect on Monday as only one candidate filed his nomination after the time of nomination and withdrawal was over.
A retired judge, Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission and liberation war fighter Mohammad Shahabuddin was nominated for the post by the ruling Awami League. No other party or individual filed nomination for the post.
The incumbent President Abdul Hamid’s tenure is coming to an end on April 23. He served as President for two consecutive terms of five years. The constitution of Bangladesh does not allow any person to hold the post of President beyond two terms.
