The annual Saraswati Puja celebrations began on Friday at Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall, with worship taking place at 76 pavilions set up by students from different departments. Devotees offered prayers, flowers and aarti from morning, marking Shri Panchami, dedicated to Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and music.
As in previous years, the Faculty of Fine Arts crafted the idols placed at the centre of the hall’s pond, while pavilions reflected diverse departmental themes. Authorities have put in place tight security, including CCTV surveillance, metal detectors and a ban on firecrackers, with support from law enforcement and emergency services.
The two-day celebrations include puja rituals, cultural programmes, prasad distribution and a blood donation drive, continuing Jagannath Hall’s tradition as the main hub of Saraswati Puja at the university.
