Bangladeshi actress arrested for criticizing Yunus government

Dhaka – Bangladeshi actress Meher Afroz Shaon was arrested. According to the Dhaka Tribune, she has been charged with ‘conspiracy against the state’, i.e. alleged sedition. She was taken into custody for questioning by the Intelligence Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Range.

Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) Rezaul Karim Malik said, “He was arrested from Dhanmandi on Thursday night. She has been detained for questioning in connection with the charges.”

Meher Afroz is the daughter of Muhammad Ali, a former Awami League advisory council member from Jamalpur district, and Tahura Ali, a 1996 Awami League MP. Mohammad Ali had sought ticket from Jamalpur-5 (Sadar) seat in the last election.

Actress Shaon was arrested from her father’s house in the Narundi Railway Station area of ​​Jamalpur Sadar upazila. She was arrested at 6:30 pm. Shortly before her arrest, her family in Jamalpur was attacked and her house was also burned.
