A Buddha Air aircraft skidded off the runway while landing at Bhadrapur Airport on Thursday evening. According to Jhapa Police Chief, Superintendent of Police Rajan Limbu, the aircraft veered around 180 meters off the runway after landing.
Jhapa Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal said that the Kathmandu–Bhadrapur flight, numbered 901 and bearing registration Nine-N-AMF, overshot the runway during landing and came to a halt in a grassy area. “The aircraft experienced an overrun during landing and reached the grass field. All 51 passengers and four crew members are safe,” he said.
A passenger’s courage prevented a tragedy on Friday night when a Buddha Air plane skidded off the runway while landing at Bhadrapur Airport in Jhapa. Amid smoke and panic, Umesh Moktan Tamang opened the emergency door, helping all 51 passengers escape safely.
The aircraft had departed Kathmandu at 7:00 pm and the incident occurred at around 9:45 pm while it was attempting to land in Bhadrapur. Authorities said further investigation into the incident is underway.
