Canadian Prime Minister Carney says all old ties with the US are over

Kathmandu-– Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said that the old ties with the US are over. He said that the relationship based on intensive integration of their economy, strict security and military cooperation has ended.
Speaking to reporters in Ottawa after the Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Carney said, “It is necessary for Canadians to fundamentally rethink their economy in light of the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.”
He says that Canada will impose a counter-tariff, i.e. customs duty, which will have the maximum impact on the US. US President Trump announced on Wednesday that he would impose a 25 percent customs duty, or import tax, on imported vehicles and parts.
Liberal leader Carney called the original Canada-US Automotive Production Agreement, signed in 1995, the most important agreement of his lifetime. He said that Canada can keep its auto industry running even if the American tariffs continue. He has also said that the government and businessmen can work together to rebuild and redefine the industry. Agency
