Chitwan National Park (CNP) bans tourism activities including commercial jungle driving inside Park

The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has banned jeep safaris inside the park from July till further notice. The CNP banned driving through the park arguing the forest tracks inside the park might be damaged, small streams inside the jungle might be flooded, roads might be obstructed due to fallen trees and there might be human casualty during the monsoon.

A notice issued by the CNP administration mentioned that other tourism activities including boating, too, have been restricted.

Information Officer of CNP, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, said 65 jeeps have taken permission from CNP to operate jungle drive in the park. A total of 32 jeeps have taken permission to conduct jungle drives in the Park from Sauraha, 15 from Kasara, nine from Meghauli, two from Ujauli, five from Amaltari, and one from Madi, he shared.

Chitwan National Park has collected around NRs. 29 Crores from around 2.89 Lakhs tourists till now in this fiscal year which is one of the highest amount collected from tourists. 109 wild animals, including 22 Greater one-horned rhinos, have died in Chitwan National Park in the past 11 months.
