Kathmandu : The CPN (UML) has decided to submit a closed list of the candidates for the proportional representation (PR) in the upcoming March 5 election to House of Representatives.

The first secretariat meeting of the UML since the party’s 11th national congress took the decision in this regard on Sunday. “The party has decided to submit the closed list of PR candidates to the Election Commission tomorrow,” said Lekhraj Bhatta, Deputy General-Secretary of the party.

Bhatta, emerging from the meeting, informed that the UML would finalize the list received from the party’s district and provinces committees and submit it to the Election Commission. The meeting discussed the closed list of PR candidates presented by party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, informed Bhatta, adding that the closed list will be reconsidered if Chairperson Oli deems it appropriate to revise it.

Chairperson Oli remarked that the interim government had failed to ensure security for election and there was no safe environment for party leaders and cadres to reach all villages, Bhatta shared.

The Election Commission, the constitutional body mandated to conduct and monitor election, has called for the closed list of PR candidates in the run-up to the upcoming election. The list could be submitted on Sunday and Monday.

The interim government formed in the wake of the September 8-9 Gen-Z movement in the premiership of Prime Minister Sushila Karki is mandated to conduct a fresh election to the House of Representatives.
