Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was sworn in on Tuesday for his third term.
The 69-year-old former army chief Sisi, who has been in power for the last decade, is now set to become the country’s head of state until 2030.
He began his tenure with billions in new loans and investments to deal with a severe economic downturn amid wars in Gaza and Sudan on the border. “I promised to be loyal to my work. My eyes will only look at you and the interests of this country,” he said in Parliament on Tuesday.
Sisi won elections in December with more than 89 percent of the vote, after his opposition rival was jailed.
The six-year term will be his last term, unless he moves again for constitutional amendments to extend his term.
