Kathmandu– Foreign Minister Dr Arju Rana Deuba and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Daniele Giovanni Cassis had a bilateral meeting in Geneva today. A sideline meeting was held between Minister Rana and the Swiss Foreign Minister, who are in Geneva to participate in the 58th high-level session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
On the occasion of the meeting, they discussed bilateral interests and mutual interests. In the meeting, Minister Rana thanked the Swiss government for its cooperation and goodwill in the economic and social sectors as well as the peace process of Nepal.
She also asked the Swiss government for support since Nepal has applied for membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council from 2027 to 2029, member of the Economic and Social Council from 2029 to 2031 and temporary member of the Security Council from 2037 to 2038. She also invited the Swiss government to participate in the Sagarmatha Sambad program organized by Nepal in May, focusing on climate change, mountains and the future of humanity.Minister Rana also asked for the support Nepal may need to achieve sustainable development goals with necessary support as Nepal is on the stage of being upgraded as a developing nation in 2026. As Nepal is advocating for climate justice in international forums regarding the impact of climate change on Nepal, he has appealed for help from the Swiss government, according to the Secretariat of Minister Dr. Deuba.
Ram Prasad Subedi, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in Geneva and others were also present at the meeting.
