In Under-19 cricket, India has set a target of 412 runs for England in the final of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Harare, Zimbabwe. Opting to bat first, India scored 411 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stole the spotlight with a sensational innings, blasting the second-fastest century in the history of the Under-19 World Cup. The 14-year-old reached the milestone in just 55 balls. Sooryavanshi went on to score 175 off 80 deliveries and became the fastest batter to reach 150 in Under-19 cricket, achieving the feat in 71 balls. He surpassed the previous record of 98 balls held by England’s Ben Mayes, set earlier in the tournament against Scotland at the same venue.
Earlier, India entered the finals defeating Afghanistan by seven wickets in the second semifinal match on Wednesday. The Indian team has remained unbeaten in the tournament. The Men in Blue are the most successful side in the history of the competition, having lifted the trophy a record five times – in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022 – with Australia next best on four titles.
