Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed, Iranian state media confirmed, following a large-scale US-Israeli attack.

US President Donald Trump warned that the bombing campaign would continue heavily throughout the week, signaling that the operation aims to overthrow Tehran’s government, international media reports said.

One of the strikes reportedly killed scores of elementary school students in southern Iran, according to Iranian media. In response, Iran launched widespread attacks on US military bases, Israel, and other targets across the Middle East, disrupting densely populated areas, air travel, and oil shipments. The US military has reported no combat-related American casualties.

The attacks have heightened regional tensions, with the United Arab Emirates calling the events a “historic moment” and criticizing global leaders for failing to maintain stability in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Iran has announced 40-day period of public mourning following Khamenei’s death, Reuters reported.
