Israeli embassy staff attacked in Beijing

Beijing. An employee of the Israeli Embassy in Beijing was attacked on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel said. “An Israeli employee of the Israeli embassy was attacked in Beijing today”, the foreign ministry said in a statement, noting that there was no attack on the embassy premises.

Last Saturday, in a surprise attack, Hamas gunmen killed more than 1,200 people in Israel and took about 150 people hostage.
Israel retaliated by shelling Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip with airstrikes, killing more than 1,350.

Hamas has called on its supporters around the world to celebrate the “Day of Rage” on Friday in order to attack Israelis and Jews.

“It is reasonable to assume that protests in various countries may turn violent”, the statement said. An AFP reporter said that the Israeli embassy in a diplomatic neighborhood in northeastern Beijing was operating normally on Friday afternoon.

Security personnel asked AFP not to photograph the area. There was no surveillance from the outside. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to the incident.
