Mahinda Rajapaksa to return to Sri Lankan politics

Colombo. Mahinda Rajapaksa will make a comeback in Sri Lankan politics. The Sri Lanka People’s Front, the party of Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also the former president and prime minister, has planned a comeback.

It is said that the party will try to return to politics through the next election. On Sunday, Rajapaksa’s party is organizing a public rally in Talawa, a rural town in the north-central region.Mahinda Rajapaksa is going to inaugurate this rally. It is said that the party is going to prepare from the grassroots level for the presidential and parliamentary elections.SM Chandrasena, a member of the party and also a former minister, has said that the party will prepare for the election that will be held at the beginning. Only on Wednesday, President Ranil Wickremesinghe had said that the presidential election would be held before the parliamentary elections this year.

Sri Lanka has been ruled by the Rajapaksa family for a long time. Rakshapaksha brothers had a strong position. The influence of the Rajapaksa family was visible everywhere. In 2022, the situation became unmanageable when Sri Lanka was plunged into a serious financial crisis.

The people protested widely saying that they were responsible for the condition of the country. Mahinda’s brother Gotabaya Rajapakse resigned from the post of President after he could not stop this public uprising.

Mahinda was the Prime Minister at that time and his other brother Basil Rajapaksa was the Finance Minister. Sri Lanka’s economic situation is gradually coming to a rhythm. Rajapaksa is also ready to return to politics.
