Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to arrive in New Delhi on 4-day visit to India

New Delhi: President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will arrive in New Delhi this afternoon on a four-day visit to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with Mr Solih tomorrow. Several agreements are expected to be signed after the talks. Mr Solih is also scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will call on the Maldivian President today. Mr Solih is also scheduled to visit Mumbai on Wednesday.

Maldives is India’s key neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region and occupies a special place in India’s Neighbourhood First Policy. India was among the first to recognise Maldives after its independence in 1965 and to establish diplomatic relations with the country. In recent years, the partnership has witnessed rapid growth in all areas of cooperation. President Solih’s visit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to review the progress made in this wide ranging partnership and lend further momentum to it.
