José F. Martínez, the Lee Teng-hui Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell, and Mor Naaman, the Don and Mibs Follett Professor of Information Science at Cornell Tech, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, and the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, have been named Distinguished Members of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), announced on Dec. 10.

Martínez was recognized for his contributions to adaptive and highly programmable parallel architectures, and Naaman was honored for his contributions to understanding the impact of technology on human communication.

ACM — the world’s largest computing society — recognizes up to 10 percent of ACM worldwide membership based on professional experience and significant achievements in the computing field. To be nominated, a candidate must have achieved a significant level of accomplishment or made a significant impact in the field of computing, computer science, or information technology. A Distinguished Member is expected to have served as a mentor and role model by guiding technical career development and contributing to the field beyond the norm.

The two join a distinguished cohort of 61 leaders from universities, corporations, and research institutions worldwide. The 2025 class includes innovators recognized for contributions in areas such as artificial intelligence for healthcare, computing education, data management, human-computer interaction, mobile computing, networked systems, security, software, and sustainability.
