Monash University joins forces with Breakthrough Victoria to co-invest $15 million into new ventures
Monash University has established a ground breaking partnership with Breakthrough Victoria aimed at bolstering its already impressive track record in nurturing spinout ventures with a dedicated allocation of $15 million in pre-seed investment.
This innovative initiative is poised to serve as a catalyst, providing crucial early-stage capital and guidance to propel the growth of spinout ventures originating from the university.
Professor Doron Ben-Meir, Deputy Vice Chancellor Enterprise and Engagement at Monash University, expressed his enthusiasm and vision for this co-investment partnership.
“In addition to reaffirming Monash’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation, this collaboration builds on our foundations for an increasingly robust pipeline of future spinout enterprises, further amplifying our university’s ability to create a lasting and positive societal impact.
“This initiative will support early-stage spinout innovation, serving the dual purpose of enhancing product development and safeguarding research with strong commercial potential, ensuring its successful path to market viability,” Professor Ben-Meir said.
The $15 million pre-seed support will enable investment of up to $500,000 into Monash innovation and development for new ventures spun out of Monash University research.
The partnership has been established under the $100 million Breakthrough Victoria – University Innovation Platform, which aims to increase commercialisation of critical research with industry and community benefits from Victorian universities.
