Myanmar — The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Myanmar has reached 1,644 and 3,408 have been injured. A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Sagaing city in central Myanmar on Friday, followed minutes later by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock that caused further damage.
This devastating earthquake has damaged the houses of more than 1.7 million people along with buildings, bridges, roads. According to the Myanmar government, 1,644 people have been confirmed dead, while another 3,408 have been injured. Likewise, when the impact of the earthquake reached Bangkok, 10 people died and more than 100 people were reported missing.
Due to the disruption of communication systems as well as the closure of airports and roads, relief and rescue operations are facing great difficulties. Though the search and rescue efforts are continuing, it is feared that the number of dead may increase. Agency
