Nepal celebrates the Ninth Constitution Day

Kathmandu: Nepal celebrates the Ninth Constitution Day today. A special ceremony was hosted at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel in Kathmandu on the occasion of Constitution Day of Nepal.
On the occasion, President Ramchandra Paudel attended the ceremony as a chief guest. Also present were Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Bishowambhar Shrestha, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, ministers, parliamentarians, constitutional bodies’ chiefs and office-bearers, diplomatic mission chiefs and representatives, government employees and journalists.

The helicopters with banners had marched around the Ring Road of Kathmandu and there was showering of flowers by the Nepal Army helicopter. There was a Cultural procession and performance on the occasion along with the release of balloons and pigeons symbolising peace.
The present constitution of Nepal is the product of nearly seven decades of the people’s struggle of Nepal to write their own supreme law of the land.

The constitution of Nepal’s inherent principle draws from the 12-point understanding reached between the then Maoist party that was waging a People’s War and the alliance of seven pro-parliamentary parties. This understanding ended the 10-year civil war and paved the way for the Comprehensive Peace Accord and the Interim Constitution in Nepal. The present constitution of Nepal was declared on September 20, 2015.
