Kathmandu: Nepal is willing to strengthen cooperation with China on the BRI & decided to join the Group of Friends of the GDI. Both sides agreed to reopen 14 traditional border trade points.

On March 26, 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with Nepali Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shrestha in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that Shrestha’s first visit to China after the establishment of the new Nepali government reflects the tradition of China-Nepal friendship and the clear position of the new Nepali government to strengthen cooperation with China.

As a friendly neighbor and strategic partner, China has always placed Nepal in the important direction of its neighborhood diplomacy, followed the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence with Nepal, and upheld the equality of all countries, big or small. We firmly support Nepal in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence, & national dignity, & in 🇳🇵exploring a development path that suits its national conditions, and will continue to provide assistance to Nepal’s economic & social development to the best of our ability.

Wang Yi said that China and Nepal are good neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, good friends who help each other and good partners who seek common development.

PM Prachanda’s visit to China last year was also a great success and leaders of the two countries reached important consensus on developing China-Nepal relations.

China is willing to work with Nepal to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries, consolidate political mutual trust, jointly build the “Belt and Road” with high quality, and push the China-Nepal strategic cooperative partnership of everlasting friendship for development and prosperity to a new and higher level.

Shrestha said that Nepal & China have traditional friendship and are interdependent, and have always respected and supported each other. 🇨🇳 has provided selfless help to Nepal in dealing with the earthquake and the pandemic, which the Nepali government & people will always remember.

New🇳🇵gov attaches great importance to rel with 🇨🇳 & is willing to work closely with China to continuously improve the level of development of bilateral relations. Nepal firmly adheres to the one-China policy & will never allow any force to use 🇳🇵territory to engage in anti-China activities.

Under the wise leadership of President Xi Jinping, socialism with Chinese characteristics has achieved great success and people’s living standards have been continuously improved. The new Nepal government is committed to developing the economy and improving people’s livelihood,& hopes to learn from China successful experience. The “BR” I is conducive to the development and prosperity of the world. 🇳🇵 is willing to strengthen cooperation with 🇨🇳 in jointly building the “Belt and Road” & has decided to join the “Group of Friends of the GDI”.

Two sides agreed to resume the opening of 14 traditional border trade points and strengthen practical cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and other fields. Two sides also exchanged views on other issues of common concern.
