Kathmandu : Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Thursday expressed gratitude for the assistance extended by China to Nepal, particularly during the country’s democratic process and development efforts.

During a courtesy meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chang Maoming in Kathmandu, the two discussed various aspects of Nepal–China relations, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

Prime Minister Karki congratulated Ambassador Chang on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure. She voiced confidence that he would effectively carry out his responsibilities and play a key role in further strengthening the longstanding friendly ties between the two countries.

Ambassador Chang, in turn, congratulated the prime minister, noting that peace, security and the rule of law had been maintained in Nepal, ensuring a conducive environment for elections. He said China has extended its support and cooperation to Nepal throughout the process.

The prime minister thanked China for its goodwill and assistance during the elections, describing them as an important component of Nepal’s democratic journey. She also expressed appreciation, on behalf of the government and people of Nepal, for China’s support and partnership in various development projects.

Both sides exchanged best wishes on the occasion of the Chinese New Year celebrated by the people of the two nations.

Highlighting the deep cultural, geographical and historical ties between Nepal and China, Prime Minister Karki reiterated Nepal’s commitment to the principles of Panchsheel and the One China policy. She reaffirmed that Nepal would not allow any activities on its soil that could harm its close neighbor.

Stressing that instability in one country can affect another, she underscored the need to strengthen mutual cooperation to ensure regional peace and stability.

Ambassador Chang expressed heartfelt appreciation, on behalf of the Chinese people and the president, for the policies and stance adopted by the Government of Nepal.
