Nepali Army announced its participation in the Clean Himalaya Campaign-2024

Nepali Army has announced its participation in the Clean Himalaya Campaign-2024, focusing on waste collection from Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Nuptse.

In a press conference held on Sunday, the Army disclosed its plans to retrieve 10 tonnes of waste and up to five deceased bodies from the mountains.

According to Brigadier General Sanjaya Deuja, Director of the Clean Himalaya Campaign, the initiative will involve deploying trained army personnel to collect trash from the Base Camp up to the Fourth Camp on Mt. Everest.

A team of 12 trained individuals, including 10 above the Base Camp and two stationed in Namche, will spearhead the cleanup efforts.

Additionally, 18 Sherpas will support the waste collection operation. Major Aditya Karki, the leader of the Campaign, mentioned that the cleanup drive aims to reach an altitude of 8,000 meters on Mt. Everest.

The waste collection campaign is set to kick off on April 11 and will continue for 50 days, culminating on June 5, 2024, coinciding with World Environment Day.
