Nepali women’s cricket in the World Cup for the first time

Kathmandu. Nepal’s men’s cricket team has tasted the World Cup. The men’s team is achieving more than the Nepali women’s team. The men’s team has already played the T20 World Cup twice.

However, this time, the women’s team was not too short. The Nepali women’s team has increased the height of Nepali cricket by playing in the ICC U-19 Women’s T-20 World Cup which started in Malaysia from Saturday. Since 2007, Nepali women’s cricket team started playing. The senior team has failed to participate in the World Cup, despite several attempts. The senior team’s efforts are ongoing.

The youth team, on the other hand, managed to decide to play the World Cup for the first time in the history of Nepali women’s cricket, which is about 18 years old. This is the biggest tournament for Nepali women’s cricket under the International Cricket Council. The World Cup for men under 19 years is still being held, while the World Cup for women in this age group started in 2023. The first edition of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup was organized in South Africa. In which, India won by defeating England by 7 wickets. However, the Men’s U-19 World Cup is in a 50-over format.
That’s how it was selected
In November last year, the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup were held in the UAE. Four countries, including Nepal, participated in the qualifying tournament. The tournament was held on a double-round robin league basis.

Nepal qualified for the World Cup by being at the top of the table. After losing to the UAE in the first match, Nepal defeated the UAE in the last match to make it to the World Cup.
