Nepal’s external relations expansion in 182 countries

Kathmandu – Nepal has established diplomatic relations with the Dominion of Tonga. With this, Nepal’s external relations expanded to 182 countries.

The document regarding establishment of diplomatic relations was signed by Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Lokbahadur Thapa and Tonga’s Permanent Representative to the World Organization Bhilimi Bhaiinga Tonale.

He also signed a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterreslai regarding the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Tonga.

The said document was signed by the permanent representatives of both the countries at a program organized on Saturday morning at Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

On that occasion, the ambassadors of both the countries expressed their commitment to mutual cooperation, expansion of bilateral relations as well as promotion of cooperation and partnership in regional and international forums.

Tongale gained membership of the United Nations on 14 September 1999. Nepal and Tonga are members of Group 77.
