New Ministers of Bangladesh’s Interim Government

Kathmandu. Interim Government of Bangladesh Dr. Mohammad Yunus took the oath of office and secrecy yesterday. President of Bangladesh Mohammad Shahabuddin administered the oath of office and secrecy to 16 members including the head of the interim government, Yunus, at the Banga Bhavan, the presidential residence. With this, after 17 years, an interim government has been formed in Bangladesh once again.
According to the Dhaka Tribune, the 16-member team of the interim government led by Yunus includes civil society leaders, experts from various agencies, lawyers, governors, student leaders, and women.
In the cabinet of the interim government, the former governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has been given the responsibility of Finance and Planning Ministry. Asif Nazrul, Professor of Law Department of Dhaka University, has been given the responsibility of Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Former foreign secretary Tawhid Hussain has been given the charge of the foreign ministry.
Similarly, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, executive head of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association, has been given the responsibility of Environment and Forest Ministry. The two main coordinators of the movement against student discrimination, Nahid Islam, have been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Information and Communication and Asif Mahmood, the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Pre-Election Commissioner M. Sakhawat Hussain has been given the responsibility of home. Deobandi Islamic scholar and professor AFM Khalid Hussain has been given the responsibility of the Cultural Affairs Ministry. Noor Jahan Begum, former acting director of Grameen Bank, has been given the responsibility of health and family welfare. Former Attorney General Adilur Rahman Khan has been given the responsibility of the industry.
Hassan Arif, former attorney general and adviser to the acting government, has been given the responsibility of the ministry of local government, rural development and cooperatives. Supradeep Chakma, chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board, has been given a non-departmental ministry.
Farida Akhtar, the executive of Uwining, an NGO, has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry. Similarly, Vidhan Ranjan Roy, the former director of the National Mental Health Hospital, has been given the responsibility of a non-departmental ministry, while Sharmin Murshid, the chief executive officer of an organization called Broti, has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Social Welfare.
Bangladesh war veteran Farooq-e-Azam has been given the charge of a non-departmental ministry. The interim government established on the basis of inclusiveness has been welcomed by the US, India and China.
