Washington, DC. Hackers from North Korea stole 1.5 billion dollars worth of cryptocurrency. CNN has reported that security experts say this is the largest crypto theft ever to be stolen at once. ByBit, which claims to be the world’s second largest cryptocurrency exchange, has been affected by this incident.
The security company TRM said that the hackers stole the amount within a few minutes on Friday. Bybit was attacked by North Korean hackers, TRM said in a statement. TRM says that hackers have stolen 1.5 billion dollars worth of Ethereum tokens from Bybit. North Korean hackers have been implicated in the theft of millions of cryptocurrencies in recent years.
In December, the FBI, the Ministry of Defense and Japan’s National Police Agency issued a joint statement saying that crypto worth $308 million was stolen from a Japanese crypto company. Bybit said it found that hackers had tampered with an Ethereum digital wallet during a routine transfer and sent it to an unidentified address. The company has said that if the hacked money cannot be returned, it will compensate the user for the damage.
