Kathmandu. The United States has won a record fifth Olympic gold medal in women’s soccer. The American women’s team won their fifth Olympic gold after defeating Brazil 1-0 in the last night’s match.
Mallory Swanson scored the decisive goal in America’s win. This match has become unforgettable for Swanson, who won the gold by scoring in her 100th international match. Brazil, who won the silver medal twice before, missed out on winning the gold medal for the first time. Brazil lost in the finals in 2004 and 2008 along with America.
Brazil tried to take an early lead at the Parc des Princes, but failed to do so. Although Ludmila’s shot hit the net, the goal was not recognized as she was offside. Swanson scored in the 57th minute to break the deadlock. Swanson easily scored on Corbin Albert’s through ball. Brazil created some chances in the extra time, but could not convert them into goals.
Along with this, America has set a new record by winning gold in women’s football for the fifth time. Before this, the last time the United States won gold in the London Olympics in 2012, they set a record by beating Germany, Canada and Norway. All these three countries have won gold 4 times each in women’s football at the Olympics.
