Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has reaffirmed her commitment to holding the House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026 in a peaceful and fear-free environment.

Addressing an all-party meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Friday, she emphasized that the election date would not be postponed, stating that the Election Commission, security agencies, and all state bodies involved in the process are fully prepared.

“Let us not think about whether the election will happen or not; let us think about how to make it successful,” she said. “If all 126 parties are united in their resolve, no one can disrupt the election. Bad elements cannot attack when the people—who are the first line of security—stand firm, supported by the police, armed forces, and former security personnel.”

Prime Minister Karki underscored that elections are the only viable path forward. “We emerged from the Gen-Z movement, but we are not against political parties. Elections are necessary to strengthen and legitimize political parties,” she said.

She added that the Election Commission and security agencies, including the Nepal Army and Nepal Police, are already actively engaged in election preparations.

She also noted that parties present in the meeting expressed readiness to participate in the election. “I believe today’s meeting is one of the most important so far. Despite some reservations, everyone agreed that elections must be held.”
