Saturn becomes the planet with the most satellites, 128 more satellites found

Washington, DC. Astronomers have discovered 128 more satellites orbiting Saturn. With this, the number of moons orbiting Saturn has reached 274. This number is double the number of satellites that other planets in the solar system have. That is, Saturn has become the king of satellites. Previously, Jupiter had the most satellites.
Astronomers had already identified 62 satellites of Saturn using the Canada France Aerial Telescope. “Yes, we have found 128 new satellites,” said lead researcher and postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Academia Sinica in Taiwan.
He also said that he did not think that Jupiter would surpass Saturn in the number of satellites. As of February 5, 2024, there were 95 moons orbiting Jupiter. The number of moons orbiting Saturn was officially confirmed this week by the International Astronomical Union. All 128 of the new moons orbiting Saturn are “irregular moons,” and the potato-shaped objects are said to be a few kilometers apart.
This increase in the number of objects orbiting the planet is sure to spark debate and controversy over what constitutes a satellite in the future.
